The transport minister confirmed yesterday (October 11) that construction on the first stage of the Thailand to China high-speed railway project will definitely start in November,

The first stage of the project will see a 253 kilometre track laid from Bangkok to Nakon Ratchasima.

The minister said work would definitely commence in November as all environmental studies have now been complete and there is only one issue which relates to an area of limestone mining in Saraburi.

The only solution to the problem is for three mining companies in the area to agree for the line to be built through the area, according to the minister.

The department of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning is currently holding talks with the mining companies over compensation for use of their land, with an agreement expected to be reached before the start of November.
