Following the government’s appeal for all Thai people to don traditional costumes during the Songkran festival, it appears that the citizens of the nation are in favour of the move.
A poll carried out by Nida, suggests that the people are most certainly behind the initiative and back the wearing of traditional dress for the duration of the New Year.
Over 1250 people were randomly selected for the survey, carried out during April 5th and 6th. The results show that 85% of the nation are in favour of promoting the festival by dressing up for the occasion.
However the remainder said it was a waste of time and money, insisting that costumes are expensive and unsuitable for water festivities such as the expected splashing and drenching that the costumes would endure.
What do you think? Should locals dress up and promote Thainess or is the idea a non-starter due to cost?
