The Philippines could boost Thailand’s rice sales as they expand their rice stocks ahead of their wet season. As stocks in the country dwindle, Thailand could reap the benefits.
However they have stated the will only purchase rice from private suppliers and not government agencies, claiming they wish to increase competitiveness.
The Philippines is one of the world’s biggest importers of rice, which often comes from Thailand and Vietnam.
How the move away from government suppliers to the private sector will affect Thailand remains to be seen but it is expected that Thai rice will be sold to the Filipinos one way or another.
Good news for the country and its rice farmers.
