A cleaner working at Phuket International Airport was presented with an award yesterday (March 2) by the airports director Petch Chancharoen.
Duangtawan Chuayseng a member of the Phuket Inter Chemical Company outsource staff working at the airport was presented with the award after she returned a combined total of 500,000 baht’s worth of money to a Chinese passenger identified as Li Xiaofei.
Duangtawan said she had been working in the men’s toilet on the third floor of the terminal building when she came across a wallet that had been left, inside there was a large number of bank notes, both Chinese yuan and Thai Baht which equated to 500,000 baht.
After making the discovery she took the wallet to airport security who made an announcement.
It didn’t take long for Li Xiaofei to show up realising his error and he presented his passport as identification which matched an ID card in the wallet as well as being able to tell officers the value of money inside the wallet.
With the airport coming under some scrutiny over the past week for long delays and runway closures airport officials were keen to highlight their honest employee’s actions.
