Phuket is preparing to start an ambitious new project set to be a “gateway” tunnel leading to the island’s beaches in what authorities say will be the first of its kind in the kingdom.
Officials say that the new tunnel will stop accidents from occurring on the steep road that currently leads to Patong Beach.
Sutthisak Watthanawinit spoke to reporters yesterday about multiple major road projects that will be beginning in the near future and said that the “Krathu to Patong” road will soon be open for bidding on the project.
Before the project can begin however an environmental study must be carried out and if approved will be submitted to the government for approval then bidding can begin.
In Bangkok bidding on a new road project from Rama 3- Doa Khanong- the outer Ringroad is expected to begin in October with construction to begin around April of 2018.
A study is also being carried out in Chiang Mai over ways to improve traffic flow from roads that connect the airport to the downtown area and surrounding districts.
