Almost a dozen fire engines were in attendance as tragedy struck in Phuket, Thailand this morning.
Residents at Ban Don, Cherng Talay raised the alarm around 04:00 as thick black smoke was noticed at the scene.
The owner of the unit where the fire is believed to have originated was unhurt. Forty-nine year old Auschara Saetiao lives at the rear of the unit but operates her clothes shop from the front of the building.
The blaze swiftly escalated to nearby units and homes and despite the early arrival of the fire service, it took almost an hour to bring the fire under control.
Five terraced homes were affected by the fire said Lt Sunan.
The road leading to the nearby Baan Don Community Market was closed as the firefighters went about their duties.
The terrace, contains four single storey and a double storey unit. Residents Ms Ratee Krajanglok, 53, Kan Saetiao, 51 and Jutharat Lilapansit, 46 all escaped unhurt.
An investigation will now take place to determine the cause of the fire, which caused extensive damage.
