Following a warning from the Meteorological Department the Governor of Phuket chaired a meeting yesterday (October 31)
to instruct all relevant departments to prepare for possibly flooding, with extra attention paid to areas prone to flooding when it rains.
The head of the Phuket Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office told the Governor that his team were ready with machinery and flood prevention equipment to take charge of the situation and take care of any flood victims.
The governor said the MET Department forecast heavy downpours in the region from October 31 to November 3.
The Governor advised people living in at risk areas such as on lowland or at the base of hill to take extra precautions against flooding.
He also advised fisherman and smaller boat drivers to be extra careful as the forecast predicted higher than average waves throughout the week.
Evacuation areas have been established in case flooding is very severe and local authorities will announce their locations if necessary.
