Phuket province has ordered a temporary stop to parasailing following the fatal accident of an Australian man on Kata Beach.
Following the death of the 71-year-old man, Narophat Plodthong, the Governor of Phuket, held a meeting over the incident and temporarily ordered a stop to the activity.
However it was reported that one stumbling block at the meeting was that Parasailing is considered a sport by law and therefor does not require the same licensing as those deemed solely for leisure purposes.
The temporary ban is in place while officials and operators look at better safety precautions.
The Phuket Marine Office has been asked to lease with relevant agency’s to suspend parasailing in Phuket, while members of the industry hold discussions on better safety precautions.
