At a press conference earlier this week in Bangkok Pol Maj-General Surachet Hakpan, the 191 patrol and special operation division chief announced that an operation had taken place where 19 locations nationwide had been raided by officers resulting in the arrest of 12 suspects.
Taken as evidence as part of the operation officers seized 39 cars, 56 motorcycles, 12 guns, a cache of ammunition, 34 bank accounts and 13 licence plates.
Raids were carried after locations had been linked with car and motorcycle crimes where they were changing the licence plates and sending the vehicles out of the country for sale police also found evidence of gun dealing and illegal money lending.
It is reported that some of those detained used Facebook as a contact point for people to “Pawn” their cars to borrow money but when customers return to repay their money and collect the vehicles they had already been sold outside the country or used to commit a crime.
The suspects arrested are facing charge of racketeering, forgery and possessing guns and ammunition without permission.
This is the second operation of its type with a total of 24 suspects being detain and police say they are gathering more evidence on further suspects.
