The popular Thai girl band BNK48 have strongly denied that they gave their authorization for a bar to promote the sale of alcohol by using a picture of one of the bands members.
The director of the Alcohol Control Board, Nipon Chinanonwait stated that his team has summoned one of the bands members in for questioning after her image was used online to promote a bar in the Chon Buri province last week.
Director Nipon said “it’s possible she did not know about it, so we have invited her to explain the facts, she is not a suspect at this time.”
The member of the group in the spotlight Punsikorn “Pun” Tiyakorn, 17, appeared on the Moto Café and Bar website on Friday promoting discounts for women who came to the bar with a picture of her.
The promotion was later picked up by the Alcohol Control Board who have begun an investigation.
Promotion of alcohol is strictly regulated here in Thailand following the implementation of the 2008 Alcohol Control Act.
The director said that his officers would soon be issuing charges against the owners of the bar.
Since the investigation began the Moto Bar and Café have posted an apology stating that members of the band were not involved and have since deleted the promotion.
Despite the bar’s statement that no members of the group were involved director Nipon said an investigation still needs to be conducted as there have been cases of celebrities working with advertising campaigns in the past.
Last August a total of nine actors and musicians were fined 50,000 baht after accepting payments to promote alcohol sales via social media.
