Over 12 million people, who consider themselves to be below the poverty line in Thailand have applied for the government’s aid scheme, since registration commenced at the beginning of April.
A spokesman announced that the government had no plans to extend the registration period, which is designed to assist people with an annual income of less that 100,000 baht.
It was expected that 15 million people would have applied for aid but it seems that the advertising campaign may not have reached many rural areas. There may well be villages who are unaware they could receive assistance.
By enlarge the scheme was successful in 2016, despite allegations that some people had managed to exploit the system with fraudulent claims.
This year, payments will be made electronically under the national e-payment scheme.
