A preinstalled camera, put in place to observe wildlife in a forest in Tak, has captured footage of a black panther.
The large rare cat, is seen toying with camera in the Umphang Wildlife Sanctuary and appears to be in an inquisitive, playful mood.
Large cats, such as tigers and panthers are under threat in Thailand. The Umphang Wildlife Sanctuary is working towards repopulating the area with tigers, guars and bears.
The sanctuary is well off the beaten track for tourists, so much so that one of Thailand’s most spectacular features was only discovered in the vicinity twenty years ago – Thi Lor Su waterfall.
At 250 metres high, Thi Lor Su is the countries largest waterfall.
