It seems a large crocodile must have gotten lost after locals in Muang Ratchaburi discovered the large reptile in a rice field late last night (January 29.)
The locals said they were surprised to find the crocodile there as it is not a natural habitat for reptiles and there were no crocodile farms nearby where it could have escaped from.
Police contacted personnel from the Pathom Rajanusorn Foundation who dispatched Ratana Phutabtim to capture the croc.
It was around 11pm when he arrived and reportedly used a large stick to manoeuvre the 1.8 meter-long, 100 kilogram crocodile into position so it could be captured with a harness.
It was taken to the foundation headquarters before being moved to a temporary home this morning at a nurturing centre for freshwater creatures in Tambon Namphu, plans are being made to release the crocodile in Nakhon Sawan.
Ratchabuti Chief Fisheries officer, Dr Chanin Saengrungruang said that the crocodile may have been someone’s pet that was abandoned once it got too big, it is estimated that the crocodile is about 2-years-old.
Dr Chanin said that the crocodile might have been dumped in the rice field as a license is required to keep crocodiles here in Thailand.
