Rescue workers pulled the body of a man from waters downstream of a Chiang Mai waterfall in the early hours of Monday morning, believing that the man drowned at some point on Sunday.
The man identified as Chaiwat Longluem, 22, was discovered just past midnight in waters below the Wang Bua Ban waterfall at the base of the Doi Suthep Mountain.
Rescue workers believe that the man had gone for a swim in the creek on Sunday evening before being swept away by fast currents caused by runoffs.
As a result of recent heavy rains officials had prohibited swimming at three Doi Suthep National Park waterfalls.
The three waterfalls were Wang Bua Ban, Huay Kaew and Montha Than.
