CHIANG RAI, 19th July 2018 (NNT) – A maquette of LCDR Saman Gunan, a former Navy Seal who died during the daring Tham Luang cave rescue mission, has been completed.

Sarawut Khummoonchai, the artist who will sculpt the statue of LCDR Saman, said on Thursday (July 19th) that he is proud to take on the task and will put all his effort into creating this monument.

The three-meter high statue will be forged with bronze imported from Australia, as it is durable in all weather conditions and can last for more than 100 years. The work of art is set to be completed by February 2019.

LCDR Saman died on July 6th while on a mission to deliver oxygen tanks to a group of 12 boys and their football coach, who were trapped in the flooded Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai province for more than two weeks.
