Could Section 44 be invoked to spark the building of the long awaited international rail link between Thailand and China?
This is what is being suggested by government sources and if it comes to fruition, would be a major accomplishment for the nation and one that when complete, would increase trade and tourism in Thailand.
To date, various technical and legal problems have prevented the project from commencing.
China and Thailand agreed to build the high speed railway with an estimated cost for Thailand of 179 billion baht to link Bangkok to Laos. Phase one will see the line being completed between Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima province.
China have ambitions to create trade routes across Asia by land and sea, so it makes sense to build the railway connection.
More good news for Thailand if they can get this project underway sooner, rather than later.
