A video has been posted online showing what the future might hold for those wanting to smoke by beaches in Thailand is being widely shared.
In the video a large glass shelter can be seen by the edge of the beach which has divided opinions online with many jokingly pointing out that they would provide a shelter from the rain as long as people didn’t mind suffering second hand smoke.
The video also shows recently installed signs outlawing puffing away on the beach with a fine of up to 2,000 baht, 98,000 baht less than had been previously rumoured to be the case.
It was reported that 10 such shelters had been installed along the Bang Saen Beach to provide smokers a place to puff away before stepping out onto the beach.
The chief of the marine coastal resources department Jatuporn Burutphat, the man responsible for implementing the new upcoming smoking ban led a group of officials on a tour of the new facilities for smokers yesterday.
It is not clear at this time if the fines will be the same at all 20 beaches taking part in the trial ban.
