It seems there’s a new “in” beauty treatment sweeping the kingdom which might leave you thinking twice about giving a girl a peck on the cheek.
Snail treatments are the new thing which women are willing to put up with in the pursuit of younger looking skin.
Korean women have been using a variety of snail based creams and lotions for years, while many believed that they just had a funny name and didn’t contain anything snail related it turns out they have all along been made from the secretions of the slimy creatures as the main component.
Studies have since reviled that the liquid left behind a snail “snail trial” is actually high in various nutrients.
As a result snail farms are now popping up all over the kingdom.
Once such farm has been opened in Bangkok by Siam Snail and boasts a collection of over 8,000 Hemiplecta snails which are allowed to roam freely around their 16,000 square meter enclosure so workers can collect the now valuable snail goop.
The Siam Snail company was started by scientists from Chulalongkorn University here in Thailand back in 2015, whose beauty creams which the main component is snail mucus from the farm are sold under the Snail 8 label and can be found all across the kingdom.
The Snail 8 website claims that snail mucus contains anti-microbial peptide, glycolic acid, anti-oxidants and vitamins A, D and E.
According to Professor Anchalee Tassanakajon the ingredients help protect skin from various bacteria’s and help skin heal.
Research is currently being carried out to branch out from beauty cream to medical creams for use in healing burn victims.
Typically the beauty creams retail for around 2,000 baht per tub but cheaper variations can be found in local stores including 7-Eleven.
What do you think will this make you think twice before kissing someone on the cheek?
