A soldier was shot three times while he helped officers man a checkpoint on Tuesday afternoon.
Officers said Sgt Jiraphan Thongphubal was shot and wounded after being hit three times by shots fired from the passenger of a motorcycle at a checkpoint in Ban Por Daenf in Yang Talad district’s Tambon Na Dee.
Officers said they and Sgt Thongphubal could see the motorbike approaching and signalled the driver to stop but the passenger opened fire as they attempted to flee.
The driver Anucha Puangphila, 24, and the alleged gunman who is 17 and cannot be named for legal reason were arrested in their failed attempt to escape.
The two men had in their possession at the time of the arrest 142 methamphetamine tablets and a 9mm pistol.
