Spaniard gets death penalty

A man from Spain, who killed a fellow countryman has been given the death penalty by the Criminal Court on Friday.

Artur Segarra Princep, 38, was sentenced to death for the premeditated murder of David Bernat, 41. The victim’s body parts were discovered in the Chao Phraya River in January 2016.

The Spaniard was convicted of the murder of Bernat and dismembering the victim, before dumping him in the river.

Bernard had been tortured and forced to reveal his ATM pin number. Over 700,000 baht was taken from his account.

Once the money had been obtained, the victim was asphyxiated using a plastic bag, placed in a freezer and finally dismembered.

The court also ordered him to return more than 730,000 baht he stole from his compatriot to his victim’s family.
