The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) estimates that New Year countdown’s across the kingdom will generate over one billion baht from both local and foreign tourists.

The governor of TAT, Yuthasak Supasorn stated that there will be multiple Amazing Thailand Countdowns held across the kingdom on New Year’s Eve on December 31.

Five provinces will hold the special celebrations being Lampang, Sakon Nakon, Rayong, Kanchanaburi and Phuket.

TAT expects countdown festivals to generate one billion baht

Governor Supasorn said that officials are expecting the events to be popular with both foreign and local tourists and expect each event to generate roughly 200 million baht or one billion baht collectively.

He noted that the New Year’s festivities will kick off the start of the TAT’s 2018 new policy which aims to disseminate money from tourism to more rural communities.

Next year TAT will promote smaller Thai towns along with large tourist-popular cities in an effort to achieve their target of attracting 10 million tourists to smaller towns during 2018.
