The Ministry of Finance says they are looking to propose tax deductions on travel expenses for older people to allow and encourage them to travel around the kingdom thus boosting tourism.
Ministry officials said that citizens aged between 55-70 known as the “silver age” group have strong buying power almost double that of any of the other age groups and opt to spend their savings at that age of travel and recreational activities.
Currently there is an estimated 10.4 million people here in the kingdom in that age bracket.
An order has been issued by Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak who has ordered the Ministry of Finance to work alongside the Revenue Department to come up with a tax incentive to boost tourism numbers of people in the “silver age” bracket.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand is also looking into making special package tours with discounts for older members of the public to further aid tourism amongst the demographic.
