A ten-year-old girl from Chiang Mai has been selected to represent Thailand at a forthcoming chess competition.
Araya Phrommuang also known as Nong Euy, has been playing chess since she was five-years-old according to her mother, Orathai, 39.
She was introduced to the game as a way of breaking her “cry baby” habit her mother said. She didn’t show much interest at first but within a month, she was addicted to it.
She won her first competition, which was organised by her school, within two years of taking up the game.
Now in Primary Four, Nong Euy, is taking lessons from masters in Bangkok to improve her skills and enhance her game.
The clever youngster will fly to Turkmenistan, where she will represent her country by playing for the national team at an Asian festival for Chess.
Love Pattaya would like to wish Nong Euy and the Thai team every success in the competition.
