The say there is a thin line between love and hate….
Well it appears that one Thai woman may have crossed from one side of the line to the other as she is now suing her lover over five years after he was a no show at their wedding at the weekend because he could not afford the dowry he promised to pay to her parents.
Sunday was supposed to be the big day for Boonyang Sawatdee, 26, who was to make the trip from his hometown of Sa Kaeo to marry Arunee Jaengkrachang, 24, at a ceremony in Prachinburi province roughly 45 minutes away.
The groom was scheduled to arrive at the early hour of 6am but when he was due to arrive he asked to postpone his arrival until 9am.
Hours went by and there was still no sign of Boonyang and after several failed attempts to reach him via phone members of the bride’s family travelled to his home only to find that the groom and his parents had fled.
The distraught bride’s family soon learnt that the groom could not put together the dowry that he had promised which consisted of 200,000 baht cash and five-baht weight of gold.
The family of the bride apparently splashed out 100,000 baht for the pair to be wed and still had to pay the caterer of the event 22,000 baht for a Chinese meal so the family has hired the services of a lawyer to seek compensation.
According to reports the heartbroken bride was in tears and nearly passed out at the news her fiancée had done a runner, she has since apparently quit her job as a factory worker, ashamed at being left at the altar.
