Married couples here in Thailand have once again been told to get busy in the bedroom and increase the country’s birth rate with the head of the Social Security Office telling couples across the kingdom today to support the Prime Minister’s new policy and that there would be financial rewards for those who do so.
Suradech Waleeithikul, secretary-general of the SSO announced that there would be increases to benefits for working couples.
He said that the 13,000 baht allowance for delivery of babies at hospitals has now been extended to any number of children a family decides to have where previously it was limited to the first two children.
Mothers will now be entitled a to 90-day maternity leave allowance amounting to 50 percent of their average income.
Suradech said that his office is currently in the process of gaining approval from the cabinet to increase monthly child support allowance from 400 baht to 600 baht for children up to six years of age.
If approval is granted then a draft bill will be submitted to the Council of State then onto the Labour minister where it will then be signed into force.
