A former Thai-Dutch TV star, who spent the past 11 months in prison, walked free today after the court dropped charges of drugs possession with intent to sell.
Amelia Jacobs, 29, left court after being handed a three-month suspended jail term and 24 hours of community service for drug use.
On Sept. 19, 2017, Jacobs and her boyfriend Punyawat Hirantecha, 41, were busted at their Bangkok home with 70 grams of crystal meth and 16 tablets of ecstasy. When police stormed the premises, the actress was allegedly in the act of using drugs, according to The Nation.
While Jacobs has denied her involvement in the drug trade, her boyfriend today pleaded guilty to the same charge Jacobs faced and was sentenced to a whopping 25 years and four months in prison, along with a fine of THB750,000 (about US$23,000).
Jacobs’ lawyer, Sitra Biabangkert, said that the actress plans to dedicate her time outside the prison to charity work and become a public speaker to raise awareness about the consequences of using drugs, Khaosod reported.
Aside from her starring role on the Channel 7 drama Thida Wanorn, which translates to “Monkey’s Daughter,” Jacobs won Miss Teen Thailand 2006.
