The Royal Thai Government has singled out tourism as one of the four main areas that will transform the nations Eastern Economic corridor (EEC) into a leading economic zone in Southeast Asia.
The EEC encompasses the provinces of Chon Buri, Chachoengsao and Rayong and is often referred to as the countries Eastern Seaboard.
The area already a popular tourist destination also has excellent trade and transport routes as well as a thriving manufacturing industry.
The government plans to strengthen the tourist sector further with help promoting the area from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).
TAT Governor said “The Well-established tourist resort of Pattaya is renowned, and visitors come to the beaches, enjoy fine-dining, nightlife and offshore attractions.”
They now plan to improve the attractions further offering a broader range of activities to cater for families coming to visit Pattaya as well as Rayong and Chachoengsao.
There are already many popular day trip attractions in the EEC such as the Cartoon Network Amazon water park which is not far from Pattaya and the Sanctuary of Truth.
Ko Samet in Rayong is also a popular tourist spot for visitors to Bangkok and offers great beaches and clear water for swimming.
They hope developments in the EEC will make the area more accessible to cruise liners and yachts to boost transport links even further in the region.
Rail links are also planned to be improved with a new double track high-speed railway which will link three local international airports.
With the efforts to improve transportation and tourist attractions there will surely be a surge of tourists flocking to the EEC
