Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha will visit the White House this October to discuss subjects including trade and security as connections between Thailand and the US continue to strengthen
U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson visited Thailand on August 8 and was the highest level visit made by a United States official since the military took control of the country in 2014.
The Prime Ministers invitation to visit US president Donald Trump at the White House is the latest sign that normal diplomatic relations might be resumed following the military coup.
Tillerson’s primary objective on his visit to Thailand was to try and persuade Asian countries to cut revenue streams to North Korean as tensions continue to rise between nations and Kim Jong-un.
The United States believes that North Korean has front companies active in Thailand and has urged the Thai government to investigate and shut them down.
