Three men were arrested in the early hours of Friday morning after officers found 520 kilograms of marijuana hidden inside the trailer of their lorry which was on route from Udon Thani to Hat Yai in the south of the kingdom.
The arrests were made as part of a joint operation between officers from the Narcotics Suppression Bureau and Crime Suppression Division who took the suspects into custody at 2am this morning.
Officers searched the trunk which was parked on Soi 18 in downtown Hat Yai.
After uncovering the substantial haul of narcotics officers arrested the trucks owner, Suchart Saengtawan, 45, and his two employees also on board Somkid Senpisaeng, 31, and Sathporn Kingkaew, 24.
The arresting officers said that they had tailed the truck from Udon Thani after they were tipped off it would be transporting drugs.
Officers stated that it was their belief that part of the illegal cargo was to be smuggled to Malaysia while the rest would go to dealers in the South of the kingdom.
The investigation is still ongoing with officers now trying to find out the identities of who the buyers of the marijuana are.
