In a recent announcement from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports the department stated that Thailand’s latest earnings from tourism revenue amounted to 1.37 trillion baht, up by 7.6 percent over the same period from last year.
Kobkarn Wattanavrangkil, the Minister of Tourism and Sport said that overall the nation’s tourism picture is a positive one with both tourists coming to Thailand and revenue generated up.
The Minister stated that from January until October 11, a total number of 26.9 million tourists had entered Thailand spending 1.37 trillion baht.
Chinese tourists grabbed the top spot for most visitors with 7.63 million arriving with an influx of 227,648 during what has been referred to as China’s golden week.
The number of Chinese tourists has increased by 69.04 percent compared to the same period last year and they spent 12.53 billion baht an increase of 75.66 percent compared to the same period in 2016.
The minister said that preparations are now underway for the upcoming high season where the department will promote traditional Thai ways of life as well as sports in an effort to get tourists to visit other areas of the kingdom not just traditional tourist destinations.
