At 9.30 this morning a Centre Point hotel Tuk Tuk ran down three pedestrians in the driveway of the hotel which is located on Soi Sukhumvit 10.
Sadly one of the pedestrians Chinnawat Pilachai died at the scene of the accident. According to Supakorn Sanklub a Lumphini policeman, his two friends who were with him were severely injured and rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.
So far the 23 yo Tuk Tuk driver Wanchai Nokkaew at this stage has not been charged with any offense, because as Lt. Supakorn said on the phone, the evidence seemed to be pointing toward the Tuk Tuk’s choke apparently malfunctioning.
Having said that the police are still questioning the survivors and various witnesses. The driver also sustained some minor injuries in the accident.
Wanchai Nokkaew told police he was in the process of dropping off a Hotel Centrepoint customer (a foreigner) when he lost control of the Tuk Tuk which then smashed into the three pedestrians causing death to one and severe injuries to the other two.
As we have pointed out in other news stories, Bangkok is now a city of over 8 million people so sadly accidents like this are going to happen nearly every day.
