Turkish Airlines are in talks to increase their four flights a week from Istanbul to Phuket to daily flights.
The increased flight schedule centres on more convenient take-off and landing slots at the Phuket airport.
Chief executive of Turkish Airlines Bilal Eksi said the airline is ready to have daily flights to and from the Phuket from next 2018 if an arrangement can be made.
The current schedule is troublesome for transferring passengers in Turkey especially for those coming from Europe.
He said “If they could land in Phuket two hours later that would greatly facilitate our transfer of passengers.”
He also said that the Airports of Thailand PLC, which overseas Phuket and other airports throughout Thailand were receptive of the request that would enable more visitors to come to Thailand.
Last year Turkish Airlines transported 324,521 passengers between Bangkok and Istanbul.
During the same time the airline brought about 75,000 tourists from Istanbul to Phuket and if the proposed changes happen they expect the number to rise to over 100,000 over the next two years.
