Due to the ever-increasing stray dog population in and around the grounds of Phayao University a meeting was held yesterday between members of the university staff and local government officials to discuss the best way to address the growing concern.
The meeting was led by Dr Pranee Yusiri the university’s deputy rector and those that attended the brainstorming meeting included members of the Phayao Livestock Office and Tambon Mae Ka Huay Khan medical staff who are also located on the university’s grounds.
It was reported that there are an estimated 150 stray dogs on the grounds which are now causing concerns for students and staff members who fear they might get bitten.
The outcome of the meeting was a plan to sterilize and vaccinate the animals as well as relocate as many of the dogs as possible to nearby shelters.
The University also pledged to build and open their own shelter in an effort to rehome the stray dogs with animal lovers, donations to help fund the new shelter will soon be sought.
