Unseasonal downpour causes flooding and traffic problems in Bangkok

A heavy downpour caught the capital of guard this morning resulting in flooding in downtown areas of the city and causing widespread traffic chaos.

Bangkok’s flood control Centre stated earlier today that a little before 12 there was a heavy downpour which effected multiple districts across the capital, including Ratchathewi, Yannawa, Thon Buri and Pathumwan with the latter being the worst affected with reports of rainfall in the district at 76.5 millimetres.

The downpour happened during the morning rush hour and left multiple roads heavily flooded with reports surfacing at 11:40am that the Ratchaprasong Intersection was also flooded.

Officials stated that they expected the flood waters to recede within an hour from the rain stopping.

Reports on Social media suggest that the flooding was more severe than officials were willing to admit stating that pavements were under water on parts of Sukhumvit Road with nearby Soi’s also badly effected resulting in widespread traffic delays across inner Bangkok.
