D-Day is fast approaching of 15,000 passenger vans, who have been instructed they must reduce seating in their vehicles to thirteen or face on the spot fines of 500 baht.

The Department of Land Transport (DLT) announced the deadline as part of their new road safety campaign following high profile accidents involving passenger vans.

Seating in most vans at present is fifteen but some are capable of carrying up to eighteen people.

DLT want the vans to meet the new rule before the commencing of the Songkran celebrations.

Van operators who fail to comply with all of the safety rules will face fines of 5,000 baht and suspension of their operating licences.
