Residents in Phitsanulok are helping clean up the city’s water quality in a unique venture introduced by local authorities.
Ten exercise bikes have been installed, where people can work up a sweat and save the environment at the same time.
Fitness goers are asked to pedal the bikes, which in turn produces oxygen to aerate the water. The new bikes appear to be popular with the locals, who say it is fun and helps treat the water.
Mayor Boonsong Taenthani said “the oxygen-generating bikes are a part of a joint project with the municipality and Naresuan University, in a bid to encourage people to help cleanse local waters.”
If the water bikes take off, maybe they will install more. The idea is a good one, let’s hope it takes off.
