A severe weather warning has been issued for many parts of southern Thailand as Tropical Storm Tembin is expected to hit the region later in the week after it passes through Vietnam today.
An announcement was made as part of a video conference led by Lertchai Sri-anan, an advisor to the Royal Irrigation Department (RID) working in connection with the Meteorological Department and other related agencies yesterday.
The conference discussed preparations which would need to be carried out ahead of the storm which is predicted to affect southern provinces as well as the nation’s capital from Wednesday to New Year’s Eve.
Tropical Storm Tembin has already caused major damage on its way across the Philippines resulting in over 200 deaths.
Though the storm is expected to weaken on its way across Vietnam today experts are still predicting that it will be strong enough to affect many parts of the kingdom.
Heavy rains are expected to affect many areas including Bangkok and surrounding provinces.
RID officials are advising reginal offices to monitor the storm closely and prepare for the possibility of flash flooding.
