A man in Thalang has been arrested over a one billion baht scam.
The 49-year-old is believed to be part of a gang of four, who conned a woman using a gambling scam trick. He was named as Somchai Inthawong from Phuket.
The Thai woman, named only as “Ms A” reported the scam stating that four men had tricked out of one million baht. She said the four men were acting as property brokers saying they were interested in purchasing her house.
The men returned later, picking her up in a Bangkok registered Honda City. They persuaded her to play a game called Fan-Tan. She was taken to a bank, where she withdrew the money to fund the game.
Once she had the money, she was taken to a room in Koh Kaew to play the game, where she lost the money but amazingly she concluded her days gambling with close to 900,000 in DEBT to the men. Then they simply disappeared.
So far only one of the con men has been identified and arrested.
