A Russian man has found himself in big trouble and may be facing some serious jail time.
After a drink driving accident resulted in a woman being taken to hospital with severe head injuries in Rawai, on Tuesday night.
Police announced that Russian national Julian Ranmer, 35, has been charged with drink driving after he finally agreed to take a breath test after an accident which saw him roll his car on the main road in Saiyuan last night.
The accident happened at 8.30pm where officers arrived finding Ranmer’s white Honda Jazz upside down in the middle of the road and the victim and her Honda Wave motorcycle lying on the road nearby.
Officers said the victim Ampa Hnuon, 36, suffered head injuries and had been taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital.
A white Mazda which was parked by the roadside was also damaged in the incident.
Officers said that Ranmer had been driving at high speed before lost control of his car and collided with the parked Mazda before rolling his own car twice and striking the oncoming motorbike in the process.
Ranmer was taken to Chalong police station where he finally agreed to take a breath test and tested positive for alcohol use.
The police are waiting to confirm the condition of the victim before considering issuing other charges.
Since the rules for drink driving changed in 2015, drink driving that results in death now carries a 3-10 year jail term and a fine of up to 200,000 baht as well as a licence being permanently revoked.
