Student Vanchai “Mark” Luangnitkul won the Singha Thailand Amatuer Matchplay Championship 2017 in Kabin Buri Sports Club in Prachinburi.
The fifteen-year-old came through the qualify rounds consisting of the top amateurs in Thailand, where they played a stroke play format. The best 32 continued to the matchplay competition.
Mark qualified in 14th place with a score of one under par, this meant he faced some tough opposition to further his involvement in the championship.
But the youngster produced some of the best golf of his life to progress through rounds one and two, with a five and six under par respectively.
In the quarter-finals, Mark defeated talented Napporat Panichphol in a 19th hole play-off.
He progressed to the final by beating 20-year-old Sajawat Spiparsit.
Kousuke Hannamoto stood in his way to glory in the final. The pair went head to head with some excellent golf being displayed from the young players. Nothing separated them until the 18th, whole where mark shone through to win with six under par to his opponents five under.
Mark now has the opportunity to train with the Thai national team and looks set to have a huge future in the game, possibly gracing some of the world’s top courses and competitions.
