Antonio Conte has signed a new two year deal to remain as manager of the current Premier League champions Chelsea.
The deal was confirmed in a statement released on Chelsea’s official website just days before they are set to leave on their pre-season tour of Asia.
Conte said “I am very happy to have signed a new contract.” The Italian manager steered Chelsea to victory in the Premier League in his first season in charge at the club last year.
Though no details on his new contract were released, English media reported that his new contract improved upon the terms he agreed when signing his original three year contract when joining the club.
The contract signing is seen as a huge boost for Chelsea as reports had begun to surface in the tabloids that Conte was growing frustrated that Chelsea had not signed any players to reinforce their ranks after a potential target Romelu Lukaku joined one of their main rivals Manchester United.
Reports also speculated that Conte does not plan on featuring Diego Costa in his future plans for his team which displeased some members at Chelsea as it could be seen to weaken their bargaining position over potential transfers of the Brazilian striker.
