Ilie Nastase has been suspended by the International Tennis Federation following an incident that left Johanna Konta in tears.
Konta was playing against Sorana Cirstea, when Nastase was asked to leave the vicinity of the court for swearing at the umpire along with abusing Konta and her captain Anne Keothavong.
It all kicked off in the Fed Cup match in Constanta on the Black Sea coast on Saturday as the Romanian lost the plot.
Despite being banned from the venue, the 70-year-old former tennis ace returned.
This resulted in a ban for all ITF events, until further notice, pending an investigation.
Nastase hit the headlines with comments he made about Serena Williams’ unborn baby at a news conference on Friday, when he made racist remarks about the child’s colour.
Then he put his arm around Keothavon and asked for her room number. She claims he asked her “if she was a virgin?”
Pam Shriver now 54, claims when she was a teenager, Nastase was always asking if she was a virgin.
“This man has not been respectful of women for a long, long time” she said.
