Thailand’s own Kiradech Aphibarnrat held his nerve and claimed the $1.75 million Handa World Super 6 on Sunday which took place in Perth.
After three rounds the top 24 players battled it out in matchplay to decide the winner.
28-year-old Aphibarnrat who qualified in the 24th spot managed to fend off Australian finalist James Nitties to take the title and the substantial cash prize.
Aphibarnrat admitted that he had never played on the course prior to the start of the tournament and considered the prospect of a 10th tournament win as unlikely.
Initially Nitties took the lead in the 6-hole battle but Aphibarnrat managed to level the match in the third hole.
After a fantastic drive on the fourth hole he sank an eagle put to take the lead from there he was able to see out the tournament to take the victory.
This was the world number 53’s fourth victory on the European tour.
