Former England and Aston Villa player Ugi Ehiogu has died from a heart attack aged 44.

Ehiogu was working at Tottenham Hotspur as their under 23 coach, when he took ill.

A Spurs spokesperson said “Ugo received immediate treatment after suffering a cardiac arrest at the training centre yesterday before being transferred to hospital, where he passed away in the early hours of the morning.”

The player began his career as a trainee at West Bromwich Albion before he was taken to Villa by Ron Atkinson in 1991. He featured in over 237 matches for Villa, scoring 12 times.

The defender also played for Middlesbrough, Leeds (on loan), Rangers and Sheffield United.

Ugo earned four full international caps for England along with 15 under 21 caps.
