Samsung’s latest phone, the S8, has been unveiled as the South Korean company do battle with Apple for dominance in the smartphone market once more.
But what does it offer to those who love to keep up to date with the latest technology advances?
The S8 boasts some of the largest wrap-around screens in production for one. There are two versions, similar to that on the iPhone. A 6.2″ (15.75 cm) and 5.8″ (14.73 cm) models are available, featuring curved screens.
Like Apple, who have Siri, the S8 will feature their own version of artificial intelligence in the form of Bixby. In addition to Bixby, there is also a new facial recognition system, permitting users to unlock their phones by simply looking at it.
With the “disaster” that was the Note 7, which had a tendency to self combust, Samsung hope the S8 will revive its fortunes in the smartphone market. The ill-fated Note 7 was withdrawn from sale two months after its launch, due to batteries that had a tendency to be fire prone.
Many airlines also banned the Note 7 from its aircraft.
Whether the S8 will revive Samsung’s fortunes remains to be seen but it can only benefit the end user if it succeeds. Competition between the two smartphone giants is required for competitive pricing and aiding development of new features with each new phone release.
The Samsung s8 goes on sale on April 21 in the USA.
