Thailand has launched its first smartphone app which allows expats to submit requests for work permits as well as notification when they have been approved.
The app went live on Friday (October 6) called Thailand Digital Work Permit.
The app is a joint effort from the Board of Investment (BOI), the labour ministry and the Immigration Bureau.
The app is currently available for foreign employees of BOI promoted businesses in an effort to increase trade and investment in Thailand.
To be used first an applicant must obtain in person a username and password from the specially set up centre in Chamchuri Square in Bangkok, then an application can be submitted via the app.
If an applicant’s request is approved they must then report to the centre again to have their photo taken and provide a digital signature.
The app has been released on both IOS and Android formats.
Officials noted that the app will make updating information easier than before where it was done via phone.
They also noted that the application might be improved further to include migrant workers from 2018.
