A 55-year-old Ukrainian national miraculously escaped serious injury after crashing his motorbike into a bridge in Phuket last night sending him flying off the bridge before falling 4 meters into the water below.

The accident happened near the Phuket Floating Market at around 7pm last night.

Rescue workers were quickly on the scene following reports of the accident and using ropes and help from locals were able to retrieve the man they identified as Mark Vladimirovich Zorin from the canal.

Rescue workers said that the man had suffered scratches to his arms and body but appeared to have escaped without serious injury, but as a precaution he was taken to the Bangkok Hospital in Phuket Town.

One of the Kusoldharm workers who helped rescue Mr Zorin said that the man was lucky there was water in the canal, otherwise he could have suffered more serious injuries.

There was no reports as to whether or not Mr Zorin was wearing a crash helmet or not or if he had been drinking prior to the accident.
