A fake monk has been arrested in Bangkok. He was wanted for a string of offences, many of which were caught on camera and spread via social media.
The monk, known as Niwat, was known to use a catchphrase to anyone who dared challenged his authenticity. He would say “Wanna Die Do you?”
Many who met the fake monk were unaware that he had a sword hidden under his robes.
A vigilant member of the public recalled seeing Niwat, 53, on social media in a variety of locations as he ripped people off. When he was seen at Klong Tom Market, the police were called and he was duly arrested.
As expected, Niwat could not prove he was a monk and admitted he was a fraudster.
He revealed he had been doing this for a number of years, because he didn’t know how else to make a living. He told police that although he shared donations of food he received, he kept any money for himself.
Seems you can’t trust anyone these days.
