Five people suffered injuries after an explosion occurred when a six-wheel truck was filling up with natural gas at a refuelling station in Pathum Thani Tuesday evening.

Police said that the explosion happened at 8:30pm at the PTT NGV station on Rangsit-Pathum Thani.

Three people identified as Montree Thonghom, 31, Sombat Morpohgu,22 and Netrat Tumkaew, 56, were all rushed to Pathum Thai hospital having sustained injuries in the blast.

Another injured man who has yet to be identified was also rushed to hospital. A fifth person was injured in the blast but only suffered minor injuries and did not want to go to hospital.

Two nearby taxis were also damaged by the explosion that saw parts of the trucks tank blown up to 20 metres away from the site of the explosion.

It is unclear at this time what caused the blast but witnesses said they heard a loud bang and saw a brief blaze of flame.

Police continue to investigate to try and determine the cause of the ignition.
