Police are hunting a gang of men responsible for raiding a dealership killing at least one employee and kidnapping others while making off with five vehicles
A gang of six or seven men reportedly raided the Wangto Car Centre in Songkhla at 11am on Wednseday morning. The men reportedly opened fire killing at this time an undisclosed number of people before stealing five pickup trucks which they forced employees into.
The gang managed to escape over the border into neighbouring Pattani’s Nong Chik district.
Officials were asked if they believed the men were linked to southern separatists but they refused to comment on the matter.
The Pattani police commander announced that his officers had shot and killed one gang member and his forces found 80 kilograms of explosives in the truck he was driving.
Stolen vehicles are often used as car bombs in the southernmost border province, where insurgents have been active for over a decade.
Authorities said another truck later exploded in Nong Chik while another two were intercepted by police on Highway 42, two trucks still remain unaccounted for.
